The Big Boy's Book of Bogey Men!

In the 23 November 2011 edition of The Daily Express, Tom Morgan opined thus:

"Ignorance really is bliss, it seems, when it comes to politics and issues we can’t grasp. THE MORE COMPLICATED SOMETHING APPEARS, THE LESS WE WANT TO KNOW – even when we really should try to understand it.

Psychologists found MOST PEOPLE ARE HAPPIER TO TRUST GOVERNMENT TO GET ON TACKLING THE BIG ISSUES OF THE ECONOMY OR GLOBAL WARMING THAN TRY TO UNDERSTAND HEAVYWEIGHT ISSUES THEMSELVES. The study of more than 500 adults found THOSE HIT HARDEST BY THE RECESSION WERE MOST LIKELY TO AVOID NEGATIVE INFORMATION ABOUT IT EVEN IF THEY NEED IT THE MOST. And telling people they would be better off if they understood what was going on only MADE THEM DETERMINED TO AVOID THE ISSUE.

A Canadian study for the Journal of Personality and Social Psychology found there was ‘a chain reaction’ FROM IGNORANCE ABOUT A SUBJECT TO DEPENDENCE ON, AND TRUST IN, THE GOVERNMENT TO DEAL WITH IT."

This is what we’re up against. The determination of the sheeple to stay shorn. And all because it’s easier to submit to the shearer than it is to think for oneself. HOWEVER, Tom Morgan and the Canadian boffins did leave the optimists amongst us with a little cause for hope, saying:

"If problems were explained in a simple way they (the people) were more likely to get involved, the study found."

Thus, the next book I write will be titled:

"The Idiot’s Guide to The Enemy Within!"

No, no. That might be a bit too taxing. How about:

"Treachery at the Top for Tiny Minds!"

No. Your average lemming wouldn’t get beyond the T in Treachery. Wait a minute! I think I have it.

"THE BIG BOY'S BOOK OF BOGEY MEN!"
