Afghanistan looks gloomy in terms of casualties

On 1 January 2011, Gen Sir Richard Dannatt, former Chief of the General Staff, said this in The Telegraph:

"We must hold fast in Afghanistan, or we’ll lose all we have fought for."
Remind me again, Dickie, what is it we are fighting for?

And killing for? And dying for? Ah, yes, 'to secure the conditions for others to create a sufficiently stable Afghanistan'.

We wished to turn Afghanistan into a country like ours, is that it? I would never have voted for such a thing, Dickie. We did all that patronise-the-poor-fuzzy-wuzzy-they'll-thank-us-in-the-end stuff in the 19th century and look where it got us. Now they flood in here en-masse, changing our world willy-nilly, because the same foully immoral political class as hammered the third-world back then says they must do so again now.

There's something else about this we're-better-than-them-they-must-learn-to-be-like-us thing, Dickie. What the hell is so bl**dy good about the dumbed-down, drugged up, degenerate, decadent, lazy, soft, weak and brainwashed Brit anyway? In fifty short years the demonic class that rules our lives has turned us from magnificent into something verging on the despicable.

I'll leave you with one statistic. This is something the unusually honest Labour MP, Frank Field, said in the 1 October 2009 edition of The Telegraph:

"In my constituency of Birkenhead, THERE ARE NOW MORE VIOLENT CRIMES AGAINST THE PERSON THAN THERE WERE IN THE WHOLE COUNTRY 50 YEARS AGO!"
And you would foist this upon the Afghans? As well as all the death and destruction? You're one of THEM, Dickie. You have a nice face and a nice manner but your behind is most definitely owned by THEM. You wouldn't have come out with this disgracefully dishonest b*llocks if it wasn't.

PS. The second sentence of your essay was curiously spot on though.

"The audit of our 10-year involvement in Afghanistan looks gloomy in terms of casualties."
I’m for the military sorting out the Afghans etc. on the streets of England, Dickie. To have them dying out there for you, the politicians and the obscenely corrupt Khazi types, has me fantasising about finishing the job Guy Fawkes started.
