A Gay Pride flag on Whitehall

On 6 July 2012, The Pink Paper reported thus:
“THE GOVERNMENT HAS HOISTED A GAY PRIDE FLAG ON WHITEHALL FOR THE FIRST TIME IN HISTORY TODAY (Friday 6 July).

The flag, symbolic of LGBT pride around the world, is being flown today and tomorrow to coincide with tomorrow's WorldPride celebrations in central London…
Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg, who in an interview this week reiterated his support of gay marriage, requested the flag be flown, commenting:

‘There has to be a first time for everything.

Flying this iconic flag in the heart of Whitehall is a small but important emblem that the government and this country are behind equal rights.”
