Reincarnation as a killer virus

The The Duke of Edinburgh was, from 1982 to 1996, the Head of World Wildlife Fund.

Addressing this organisation in November 1998, he said this:

"If I were reincarnated I would wish to be returned to earth as a killer virus to lower human population levels."

In 1967, at the Fawley Foundation Lecture hosted by Southampton University, he said:

"Conservation may involve culling... I realize this is a very touchy subject, but the fact remains that mankind is part of the living world."

On 18 February 1981, in an address to the All-Party Conservation Committee, he said:

In an interview with People magazine on 21 December 1981, the Prince said:

"Human population growth is probably the single most serious long-term threat to survival… We have no option. If it isn't controlled voluntarily, it will be controlled involuntarily by an increase in disease, starvation and war... You can't legislate these problems away. The more important people, the ones who have responsibilities have got to do it."

Now, some may think that dear, old Phil was talking a lot of sense and, indeed, a good many of us believe that there are far too many out-of-control human beings on this earth of ours for the maintenance of a healthy planet. But when the Duke advocates an imposed 'cull' of the population, we don't really think that he has people like himself, his family or 'the more important people' in mind, now do we?
