Our government, our world, is not that interested

On 26 July 2014, Jon Snow, who had just returned from Gaza, said this on Channel 4:

“People who live in Gaza are… unbelievably young. The average age is 17. That means that about a quarter of a million are under 10… In a very densely packed urban area, if you decide to throw missiles, shells, and the rest, then undoubtedly you will kill children. And that is what they're doing…

In some way we actually share some responsibility… because for us it is no priority whatever to stop it. Our United Nations, our government, our world is not that interested…

We cannot let it go on.”

On 20 July, Snow, Channel 4’s lead presenter for many years, had previously tweeted this:

"If you strangle a people, deny them supply, for years, extreme reaction is inevitable. The one begets the other."

I don't like Jon Snow. He's as PC as they come (in 2010 he married Precious Lunga, a Zimbabwean woman 28 years his junior) and I've never seen him do anything other than sneer when interviewing a British Nationalist. Nigel Farage wouldn't describe himself as such but even he got the full anti-patriotic Monty when he was interviewed by the upper-crust establishment icon prior to the EU elections recently.

However, credit where credit is due. The darling of the left-wing intelligentsia gets it right here. In fact, the two media outlets in Britain that report the situation in Israel/Palestine most honestly would be, like Snow, the most leftward-leaning and PC as a rule. The Independent and The Guardian tell it as it is, minus the usual Zionist spin.

They, too, must be commended for this.
